Applications being accepted from HCHS for academic/athletic Hall of Fame Pgm
Applications are due by June 30th for the 2010 Harlan County School District’s Frank Brittain Academic/Athletic Hall of Fame. This program honors the district’s outstanding students in academics, athletics and extra-curricular activities.
The program, established under the leadership of Superintendent Timothy W. Saylor in 2002, is governed by a committee comprised of current and former educators, business and industry and community representatives.
“As an administrator, I believe it is imperative that students be recognized for their success in the classroom, on an athletic team, in drama, choir or any other area,” said Saylor. “The Hall of Fame is an excellent way for the school district to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our students. The criteria are stringent, maintaining the integrity of the honor.”
Since 2002, only nine students have received the recognition. In addition to acrylic and cash awards presented to the honorees, permanent etched plaques highlighting the students’ accomplishments are placed on the Hall of Fame located in the lobby of the district’s administrative office building.
The Hall of Fame is named in memory of longtime Harlan County Educator Frank Brittain whose contributions to the school system and public education spanned six decades.
“I encourage parents of our seniors at Harlan County High School to review the accomplishments of their children in academics, athletics and other activities,” said Saylor. “It is important that parents urge their children who are eligible to take the time to apply for this great recognition program. This is a great opportunity for the students to be rewarded for their hard work, dedication and determination. It truly is an elite group.”
